New location: delivery of your own drink

The (top)runners of the 42 and 21 km can have their drinks dropped off at their desired kilometer point. Return your bottle on Sunday 11 May 2025 by 7.55 am at the bag depot of St. Jacobsgracht corner Hoefstraat or on Saturday 10 May 2025 at the helpdesk.

Your name and kilometer point must be clearly visible on the bottle.

New bag depot

This year, the guarded bag depot is NOT in the Van der Werfpark. The city council decided three weeks before the event that the lawns in the park will be sown one more time in a last-ditch effort to let the grass grow in the park.

You runners will therefore have to move your bags to the St. Jacobsgracht and the southern part of the Garenmarkt, near the changing tents and showers. On the Garenmarktplein, signs will clearly indicate where you can now put your bag.

SWIS new sponsor of the full Marathon

SWIS, the innovative Leiden internet agency, will be the proud main sponsor of the full marathon of the Leiden Marathon for the next three years. The iconic distance of 42 kilometers will from now on be known as ‘The 42 of SWIS’. Director and owner Matthias Snoei signed the sponsorship agreement together with Tjeerd Scheffer, organizer of the Leiden Marathon.

SWIS specializes in developing digital solutions and websites that contribute to a better online world. The company has had strong ties with Leiden for 25 years and enjoys contributing to the local community. “As a Leiden company, we think it is fantastic to give something back to the city in this way,” says Matthias Snoei.

A new special medal

The Leiden Marathon is known for its special medals. They always feature an iconic Leiden image. For the 34th edition comedian and writer Jochem Myer and DJ and music producer Armin van Buuren have agreed tot take their place on the medal.

Corpus Kidsrun free for all kids

For the first time, children can participate in the CORPUS Kidsrun over 2 kilometres for free. The organisation believes that children should exercise as much as possible and wants to promote this.

This is why the Leiden Marathon has decided to remove any financial threshold and allow children up to 12 years of age to run in the Kids Run on 11 May 2025 completely free of charge. However, they must officially sign up by registering at this website.

The CORPUS Kidsrun will form the spectacular conclusion of the event at 3pm.

Leiden Marathon brings start times forward

The Leiden Marathon has brought forward the start times of various distances for the 34th edition on Sunday 11 May 2025. Participants of the full and half marathon will leave an hour earlier than previous years at 9am and 10am respectively.

The organisers are responding to possible warm weather conditions with this decision. In 2024, the Leiden Marathon had to remove the 10 kilometres from the programme at the last minute. Several participants had run into problems on the longer distances because of the high temperature combined with the exertion. As a result, there were no longer enough ambulances available for the continuation of the event.

Other distances and walking

The bringing forward of the full and half marathon also affects the other distances. The 10 kilometres will start at 1pm, followed an hour later by the 5 kilometres. The CORPUS Kidsrun will form the spectacular conclusion of the event at 3pm. For the first time, children can participate in this run over 2 kilometres for free.

The programme of the Leiden Marathon Walk on Saturday 10 May remains unchanged. The start of the 42 kilometres is at 8am. This will be followed by the 21 kilometres and 10 kilometres at 10.30am and 11.30am respectively.

Registration

Registration for both running and walking is now open, click for running and walking. We recommend registering early. Last year, almost all distances sold out early.
