The Leiden Marathon will come again. In the 30th edition, however, there will be running and walking in different weekends. The walking is now scheduled for Saturday, September 18, while all running distances will be held on Sunday, October 10. The evening run over 5 kilometers has been reduced to Sunday again this year. The Marathon Flame, which was to be brought from Greece because of the 30th anniversary of the Leiden Marathon, has been postponed to the May 2022 edition.
When the Leiden marathon is held again, the city and region will have to go through the two and a half years without the walkers and runners. The May 2020, November 2020 and May 2021 editions were canceled due to COVID-19.
There are not many more changes than the aforementioned changes, except for the relocation of the 10-kilometre route to the Roomburg district. The Pieterskerk will also not be used and, as a few years ago, tents will be placed on the renovated Garenmarkt. The Van der Werfpark is used for the bag wardrobe. Start and finish remain on the Breestraat and the Vismarkt. The walkers and the kids run start and finish at the Garenmarkt.
